Domaine Alain Burguet
By the age of 14, Alain Burguet and his brother Gilles were, according to their father, done with school – by this time, they’d already spent many hours working alongside his father in the vineyards. Returning to Gevrey from his military service, Alain started his own domaine, initially with rented vines until he could start to accumulate land of his own. From the beginning, he practised organic farming, long before an official certification even existed! Alain’s sons, Jean-Luc and Eric joined the domaine in the late 90s and officially took the reins in 2011 and have converted the farming to biodynamics.Lot 1 – Château Haut-Bergey Pessac-Léognan 2000 x 6 Magnum (OWC)

Château Haut-Bergey
The present owner Sylviane Garcin-Cathiard, purchased the 28.5-hectare estate in Leognan in 1991. Most of the vineyards, planted on excellent gravelly, pebbly soils, are devoted to the production of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, with 2 hectares devoted to Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon.Lot 1 – Château de Meursault Pommard 1er Cru, Clos des Epenots 2013 x 6 Magnum (OC)

Château de Meursault
Until recently, Château de Meursault has been best known for its impressive vaulted cellars and being the venue for the annual Le Paulée de Meursault more so than for their wines. In 2012, however, with Hong Kong-based Olivier Halley’s purchase of the domaine, the focus has shifted squarely to winemaking. Stephane Follin-Arbelet, former director of Bouchard and brother of Frank Follin-Arbelet, joined the team and has already made great strides in making the estate a rising star of Burgundy. Conversion to organics, planting cover crops, increasing the size of picking and lowering yields are just some of the many effective innovations he has introduced, and the results are telling.Lot 1 – DELAS FRÈRES, Hermitage Les Bessards 2009 x 2 bottles

Producer Profile:
DELAS FRÈRES
Delas Frères began as a niche Rhône family domaine more than 160 years ago. Since being acquired by Champagne Deutz (1977) and subsequently Louis Roederer in 1993, it has made great strides toward becoming a prominent name in the Rhône under the direction of Burgundian winemaker, Jacques Grange. The wines are made to epitomise finesse and elegance, with recent vintages from the vineyards of Hermitage, Crozes-Hermitage, Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Côte Rôtie, Condrieu, Côtes-du-Rhône and Côtes-du-Ventoux winning all the more praise for their intensity of flavour and excellent value.Lot 2 – CHARLOPIN, Gevrey Chambertin VV 2005 x 2 bottles

CHARLOPIN
The son of a vigneron who rented vines and did not own his own, Philippe Charlopin had a similar start to his father in 1977. He purchased his first vines in Gevrey in 1978 and over the years amassed 25 hectares of vines in 36 appellations split across 140 parcels in the Côte de Nuits, the Côte de Beaune and Chablis. A keen student of Henri Jayer, Philippe still follows Jayer’s philosophy of ‘making wines that are good to drink both when young and when old’.
